In New Zealand, Radio New Zealand reports that Z Energy has decided to abandon its biodiesel production plans due to the 400% increase in feedstock costs since 2015. Although the country now has plans to blend biodiesel, with tallow costing NZ$2,077 per metric ton in March 2022 compared to NZ$400 in 2015, it’s much more economically viable to import biodiesel for the first two to three years than to produce it domestically. The blending mandate kicks in next April.
